Summer Debate 2025

On Thursday 3 July, pupils from Debate Club contested the motion ‘Teachers should be replaced by AI’. Pupils had spent several weeks researching the topic before writing and rehearsing their presentations. With several staff and the remainder of Debate Club providing an audience, the proposers, led by Stanislaw, and the opposition, led by Waiel, hotly contested the motion in what was a fierce yet friendly competition. Judges, Mr Bardon, Mr Walton and Mr Forsyth, were impressed by the detail and poise of the speeches and the skill with which either side rebutted the other’s argument. After several minutes of deliberation, the judging panel felt that the debate had been edged by the opposition, with Joseph identified as giving the best individual performance. All the participating pupils were commended by Mr Hankin, each receiving a certificate and a sweet treat.

The Debate Club’s exciting schedule for the new academic year includes several local and national competitions, including the Bar Mock Trial Competition and the Great Lancashire Debate. New members are always welcome to join the Club which meets every Thursday in Room 13  after school.
