Author Visit

The author Julian Sedgwick visited our school last week. He spoke to our Year 8 pupils about his lifelong immersion in Japanese culture and history and the close friendships he made in the country.
Julian explained how he visited and interviewed survivors of the 2011 earthquake/tsunami disaster as research for his book Tsunami Girl and introduced pupils to the work of his co-creator, Japanese manga artist, Chie Kutsuwada.

Julian sent us a much appreciated message afterwards:

“I probably said all this last year – and in person again today! – but just wanted to put down in black and white how hugely impressed I always am with Corpus Christi and the respect, response and experience I receive on my author visits. And today was wonderful again, with attentive year group, real focus and engagement, a huge number of thoughtful and sensitive questions, and great response in the mass workshop as we created the haunted Deepdale setting and found our ghost and healed his problem! I certainly wouldn’t attempt to hold a year 8 for two hours like that in most schools, but the Q&A was one of the best year 8 reactions I’ve had, well, since last time in Corpus Christi, and it meant that we could sustain engagement and attention all the way through. Huge thanks to all students and staff involved. And generally, from reception to canteen to staff room and performance space, I encountered such a warm welcome as ever. As I approach my 500th school visit I can honestly tell you that consistently Corpus Christi is one of the very best experiences I have on my tours. The atmosphere and ethos of the school seem very special, and I’m not surprised by your Ofsted report! Wish I could bottle what you have and take it to other places.”
