Culture Day 2024

On 17th April, pupils at Corpus Christi came together to celebrate the diversity of cultures in the school community. Over 34 different countries and 31 different languages across 4 continents were represented at the Culture Day celebrations.

Over 200 pupils and staff celebrated the event, and they were joined by governors and other members of the school community. The event was formally opened by Evi, a former pupil, whose ambition and enthusiasm for celebrating the cultures within school led to the first Culture Day held in 2023. Evi said, “It is wonderful to see everyone celebrating their culture together, and I hope you continue to do this as a community long into the future.”

Pupils beamed with pride wearing their traditional dress, which were an array of vivid colours, sequins and fabric. A collection of books, money, jewellery and artefacts were on display to educate the pupils. In addition, pupils also prepared leaflets and information to share the history of their country, traditional dress and food. Finally everyone was treated to an exceptional performance of South American dancing led by Year 9, 10 and 11 pupils. It was clear throughout the event how much the pupils enjoyed the event and being given the opportunity to immerse themselves in each other cultures which was recognised in the recent Ofsted inspection when inspectors commented that, “pupils are proud to share and celebrate their own traditions, clothing and food.”

School Governor, Elizabeth Sutton, who visited the event, said of the pupils “their overall sense of pride, about their culture and their school, was overwhelming.”
