Duke of Edinburgh Award

As part of our extracurricular offer, pupils in Year 9 are given the opportunity to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. This prestigious award is desired by post-16 providers and colleges, as it demonstrates resilience, leadership and problem-solving skills in young people who achieve it.

This academic year, 60 pupils were supported to complete the four sections of the award (volunteering, skill, physical and expedition) in school. They attended fortnightly training sessions followed by a training day, which ensured they were equipped with the skills to be successful on their expedition. The expeditions took place in June 2026, where pupils completed two 6-hour walks and an overnight camp over a two-day period. They were continually monitored and assessed for their levels of competence in navigation skills and camp craft, ensuring they went on to successfully complete the 20 conditions of the expedition.

The pupils involved completed this challenge with resilience and enthusiasm, despite some challenging weather conditions.
