Our school has been informed by The Geographical Association (GA), that we have achieved the prestigious Secondary Geography Quality Mark (SGQM) status for excellence in teaching and learning in geography. The award recognises a remarkable GCSE 2020 pass rate of 78% 4 – 9 grade and a very impressive 40% for the higher tier 7-9 grade in Geography.
The SGQM awards quality and progress in geography leadership, curriculum development and learning and teaching in schools. All the award winners undergo a rigorous moderation process, and the team of assessors were hugely impressed by the manner in which our school continues to embrace new and innovative approaches to teaching geography. The SGQM recognises student attainment, progress and achievement in geographical knowledge, understanding, values and skills, and sets expectations about the quality of teaching in geography. It promotes effective subject leadership and management, helping subject leaders raise the standards of geography in their schools.
On receiving the award, Head of Geography Mrs Parkinson said, ‘The SGQM award importantly recognises the continued progress being made by our pupils here at Corpus Christi. The Geography department are delighted with the award, which recognises high quality teaching, learning and the hard work, passion and determination of all staff.’
