Throughout the year pupils earn House Points for a variety of different positive contributions to school. These include participation in extra-curricular activities, excellent homework, positive contributions to lessons and excellent attendance. They can also lose points for poor behaviour, missing homework and being late for school. Pupils also earn points for inter-house competitions which are organised by various departments.
This year, pupils have once again raised their game and achieved an unprecedented number of house points, totalling just over 198,000 points, an increase of almost 16,000 on the previous school year. Despite this, the competition between the three houses has been strong throughout the year. Arrowsmith have also closed the gap remarkably to make this a compelling contest
This year, third place again went to Arrowsmith. Mr Chester’s house gaining an excellent 63,078 points, increasing by over 9000 points which is almost double the improvement of either of the other houses. In second place this year again is Clitherow, with Mr Walton’s house achieving an exceptional 64,371 points. They could not however stop Haydock winning their seventh overall House Championship in eight years and an incredible fifth in a row, Mrs Towers’ house triumphing with a record 70,644 points. With their Sports Day victory, this means they have done the ‘double’ for the second consecutive year – the ‘double double.’
Congratulations also to the top House Point earners in each year group: Samuel Adekiigbe (8P, Haydock, 871), Ada Lai (9O, Arrowsmith, 785), Toluwani Adeoso (10R, Clitherow, 834), Lucy Lai (11P, Haydock, 376) and the top achiever in the school, Jacob Tootill (7O, Arrowsmith, 880).
