Throughout the year pupils earn House Points for a variety of different positive contributions to school. These include participation in extra-curricular activities, excellent homework, positive contributions to lessons and excellent attendance. They can also lose points for poor behaviour, missing homework and being late for school. Pupils also earn points for inter-house competitions which are organised by various departments.
This year, pupils have achieved an unprecedented number of house points, totalling just over 92,000 points, and this is with Sports Day regrettably being postponed and then cancelled due to poor weather. Despite this, the competition between the three houses has been a real battle throughout the year – and in particular between Clitherow and Haydock. So much so, that the top two houses have been separated by less than 200 points in the final results.
For the second consecutive year, third place went to Arrowsmith, Mr Chester’s House accruing a creditable 28,119 points. They have closed the gap brilliantly in recent weeks, but Miss Caton’s Clitherow fall agonizingly short with an impressive 32,230 points. However, with their fourth triumph in five years, it is Mrs Matthews and Haydock house who have retained the overall House Championship, with a magnificent total of 32,405 points.
Congratulations also to the top House Point earners in each year group: Toluwani Adeoso (7R, Clitherow, 678 points), Maisie Alesbury (8R, Clitherow, 601), Isha Hoolash (9P, Haydock, 600) and the top achiever in the school, Lucas Ignazio Polizzy Carbonelli Lema (10O, Arrowsmith, 695). A huge well done also to Victoria Okeowo (7P, Haydock, 662), Nicole Carbonelli Lema (7C, Haydock, 650) and David Ogunsumi (7U, Arrowsmith, 601); all of the above pupils achieved a Platinum award for over 600 House Points and earn a £20 Amazon Voucher.
Next year, there will be even more inter-house competitions organised by every department in the school, and we look forward to the battle between the houses being more competitive than ever!
