On Tuesday 21 February, our U14 team played in the final of the Lancashire Basketball Cup against Clitheroe Royal Grammar School.
Our side opened the scoring with a shot from Maxwell, followed by more baskets from Theo and Kieran. After what seemed to be a relatively easy start for our boys, leading 20-8 at the end of the first quarter, Clitheroe started to find their feet in the game, slowly edging back in the second quarter, leaving just 8 points between the two teams at 24-16. Baskets were scored by Luka in the second quarter. In the third quarter, both teams scored 12 points apiece, making the score 36-28. Clitheroe closed the gap further, making it a nail-biting finish with only 1 point separating the two schools towards the end of the fourth quarter. We kept our nerve in the dying final few seconds, with some brilliant interceptions by Kiross to help secure our team as champions of the U14s Lancashire Basketball Cup, with a final score of 46-45. Baskets were scored by Theo and Maxwell in the fourth quarter.
The Most Valuable Player on the evening went to Theo for his outstanding play and encouragement. The boys should be extremely proud of themselves, for their excellent achievement and the manner in which they achieved it.
