On Tuesday 9 May a group of 24 Year 9 pupils visited UCLan campus. Pupils attended a presentation to learn about access to careers in media and studying at UCLan. Pupils were split into two groups and worked with their respective groups to produce their own broadcast; one group hosted their own talkshow and the other a news bulletin. Completing their set tasks, pupils had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a working studio, performing various media-based roles such as floor directors, camera operators and control room operators. Some pupils took on a journalist presenting role, whilst others operated state of the art 4K cameras, worked in the control room where they could direct, adjust the lighting and sound and add in music intervals. Pupils were able to watch their creations at the end. In the afternoon pupils had a tour of UCLan’s campus to see what is available to them if they decide to go to university.
